FFA Summary and History

by Devin Webber

This is one of the biggest school clubs with over half of Butte Valley High School students are classified as members, plus the FFA is a national school club. There are thousands of members nationwide. That's why every year there's a national convention. In the state of California FFA is organized into chapters. Basically each school is represented by a chapter, which has meetings. In March there is the Sectionals meeting in Chico. After that, members go to the state FFA meeting, and after all that all the students that fundraise go to National Convention. If the students want to do all of these trips, students have to fundraise, and that's why students prepare dinners, also that's why they're selling candy. FFA also has a lot opportunities, and some history. The organisation was founded in 1928. It was made for agricultural awareness. The founders were Henry C.Groseclose, Walter Stephenson Newman, Edmund Magill, and Harry Sanders. Groseclose actually suggested the name future farmers of Virginia, and later when there were more schools, they changed the name to future farmers of America. The founders actually made it for teenagers that wanted to become farmers or students that have a agriculture job. So the founders created FFA, to help these kids to get a agriculture background.
